Boulder Junction is the proclaimed “Musky Capital of the World.” That title will be on full display during the town’s annual Musky Jamboree festival that takes place Aug. 7-9.
The three-day jamboree, held at 5352 Park St. in Boulder Junction, features an arts and crafts fair, car show, flea market, live music, food and beverages.
Activities will begin the morning of Friday, Aug. 7, with a DNR: Learn to Fish Muskie Workshop at 8:30 a.m. at the community center. This free event is open to the public and requires little to no fishing experience.
Those interested in the event should register ahead of time as a maximum of 12-15 participants will be chosen for afternoon fishing with a mentor. For additional information or to register for the event, contact Conservation Warden Brad Dahlquist at 715-209-8373.
Later in the day, the Boulder Junction Street Party will be held from 6 to 10 p.m., featuring a live performance by Brass Differential. The block on the east end of Main Street between Coontail/ Sauter Builders and the post office will be entirely blocked off for the party. Those interested in joining are encouraged to bring personal lawn chairs, and enjoy the beverages served by American Legion Post 451, and the cookout hosted by Lakewood Market.
Then on Saturday morning, Aug. 8, a 5K and a 10K Musky Fun Run will begin at 8 a.m. The day will start at the Boulder Junction Sports and Recreation Park. In addition there will also be a 1K and a 100-yard dash kids race.
Those interested in participating are encouraged to register online for the Musky Fun Run by Thursday, Aug. 6, at noon. Walk-in registration and check in will also be available between 7 and 7:45 a.m. on race day.
Following the athletic portion of the morning, Boulder Junction Historical Society will host a History Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the community center. There will be a barbecue and brat sale, bake sale, raffles, and a kid’s coloring contest.
The grand finale takes place Sunday, Aug. 9, offering a car show, crafts and flea market, and other activities for the whole family.
From 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., Main Street and Highway M South of town will be closed to vehicle and recreational traffic to provide a space to host the jamboree festivities.
Transportation will be available via shuttle service operated by the Boulder Junction ATV/UTV Club throughout the day in the barricaded area.
Car enthusiasts and competitors can check out the annual Musky Jamboree Car Show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Voting will take place between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., with awards announced at approximately 2:15 p.m. The car show will take place at Highway M North near the Veteran’s Triangle.
Also during those hours, more than 130 artists and crafters will fill Main Street and Highway M South to share their selections of fine art, jewelry, wood-worked pieces and other hand-made items for sale.
Additionally, the Lions Club Flea Market will be located on community center grounds. Many local service groups and organizations, as well as restaurants and cafes will line streets with an abundance of food and beverage concessions.
For the young ones, a kid’s zone will be set up by the Boulder Bear Motor Lodge on Highway M South. A Kid’s Casting Contest will last from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., where kids ages 6 to 14 are encouraged to show off their casting skills to compete for prizes. The award ceremony for the casting contest will be held at 2 p.m.
Finally, the popular Musky Day Fly-In will go on from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Payzer Memorial Field, located just 2 miles North of Main Street on Airport Road. Numerous colorful planes of all varieties will take off and land at the airport near Boulder Lake.
