Area residents and visitors can tap into spring at the 14th annual Phelps Maple Syrup Fest this Saturday, April 5, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Phelps School.
The family-friendly event, appropriately held in the Maple Syrup Capital of Wisconsin, celebrates everything from sap to syrup.
It will feature sugar bush tours, tree-tapping demonstrations, cooking with maple syrup demo, maple taffy-making on the snow, and more.
Sunrise Lodge will run the Maple Café, offering breakfast, including French toast, maple sausages, apple maple crepes, and desserts.
A maple syrup judging contest will honor the best in syrup production. The Tipsy Housewife, Channel 12 Meteorologist Devin Biggs, and Jim from Wisconsin Supper Club Chasers will serve as celebrity tasting judges.
Also joining the festivities is Alice in Dairyland, Wisconsin’s agriculture ambassador.
An arts and crafts fair will be held inside the school, featuring vendors with various handmade items for sale. Attendees can stock up on bottles of locally-made syrups and enjoy maple-themed sweet treats, while children can have fun with face painting and other activities.
The day’s activities and sugar bush tours are free, while a portion of the proceeds from the fest will benefit area high school graduates through continuing education scholarships.
Phelps School is located at 4451 Old School Road.
