Nicolet National Bank Senior Spotlight

Three Lakes senior Sawyer Szews is a running back on the Three Lakes-Phelps varsity football team, and produced some good numbers in week one of the season. He rushed for 77 yards on eight attempts and one touchdown. Szews is a big team-first guy, with his goal this season to contribute to his team’s success in any way possible. In his free time, you can find Szews in the outdoors. Here is more on the Three Lakes senior:

Do you have a nickname that your friends or family call you?

“My family has always called me Bud. I don’t really know why, but it has always been my nickname since I was little. My teammates call me Sussy sometimes. I’m not quite sure how that one came about, either.”

Do you do any other sport besides football?

“I also play basketball and baseball. I play these sports obviously because I enjoy them, but also because it is nice to be playing some kind of sport almost year-round.”

Is there a personal goal you have on the field this year?

“I do not really have any personal goals for football that relate to numbers or stats necessarily. However, I do have a goal of contributing to the team’s success in whatever way I possibly can to the best of my ability.”

What other hobbies do you have outside of sports?

“Some other hobbies outside of high school sports that I have are hunting, fishing, playing ping pong, and playing drumset.”

Favorite vacation spot that you’ve been to?

“My favorite vacation spot is Miramar Beach, Fla. It’s a cool little area on the panhandle of Florida that offers many opportunities for fishing and has beautiful white sand beaches. My family has been going there every year for a while now.”

Do you have a pregame routine that helps you before games?

“My pregame routine often involves eating food, sometimes sleeping on the bus and listening to the pregame music blasting from one of my teammates’ big JBL speaker in the locker room. Having the music extra loud helps me get my energy up and my head in the right place.”

Do you have any plans for after high school? College?

“I do have plans on going to college after high school, but I just do not know where exactly yet. I am looking to play football in college, also.”
