FIRE PREVENTION WEEK — Last week, the Eagle River Fire Department welcomed area kindergarteners, preschoolers, and daycare groups for a jam-packed fire safety presentation. The hourlong visit included an animated video, a demonstration on safely escaping a burning bedroom, instruction on stop, drop, and roll, an introduction to the elements of a firefighter’s suit, and time to explore the firehouse equipment and trucks. —Staff Photos By CHRISTINA BRANDMEIER
Captain Mike Dreger led the interactive presentation, making fire safety fun for all.
Students laughed at Nick Virgilio’s silly glasses, which made his firefighter suit less scary.
Dreger and Robert Harsla demonstrated how to safely get out of bed during a nighttime fire, checking a door’s temperature before exiting.
The kids capped the visit by climbing aboard the fire trucks.
