On the first weekend in February, sled dog racers and their winter-loving dog teams were excited to return to racing in Land O’ Lakes after two years of weather-related cancellations. Fifty-nine teams registered to take part in various junior, adult, and skijor events. On the grounds, warming fires and hot cocoa were also provided by the Frosty Snowmobile Club. —Photos By Bob Hughes and Michelle Drew
One of the six-dog teams tears down the trail during Sunday’s races.
Volunteers with Frosty Snowmobile Club served up hot cocoa and warming bonfires to keep attendees toasty during Saturday's races.
Both days of the event offered up a chance for youths to experience the thrill during the mutt races.
Saturday is a bigger day for spectator turnout, both to watch racers as well as youths take part in the fun.
"Edible hand warmers" (aka pasties) are a hit when temperatures dip. As an added bonus, they also benefit SOAR Middle School.
Competitors could join the one- to two-dog skijor competition on Saturday.
