Northland Pines School District will be hosting its 2024 Astronomy Night on Friday, Oct. 25 (or Saturday, Oct. 26, depending on weather) from 6:30 - 9 p.m. at Oldenburg Sports Park in Eagle River.
The event will be led by Northwoods Explorers and Northland Pines High School science teachers Peter Aerts and Joy Kalkofen.
Starting at 6:30 p.m. there will be a short talk on the night sky by the Northwoods Explorers, then a walk of a model of the Solar System. There will be several telescopes set up to observe M13, Saturn (ringless due to its angle in orbit), M33, Dumbbell M27, Andromeda, M81 and M82.
Vehicles should be parked toward Highway G, facing away from the telescope viewing area at the far end of the parking lot.
If Friday night’s event is canceled and Saturday’s weather forecast looks better, updates will be posted by 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24.
Northland Pines social media will also post updated information as soon as it is available.

White light flashlights are not allowed. Use red lights or cover white lights with layers of red cellophane or a thick red balloon. A white light shone into dark-adapted eyes can be painful; it might take 20 minutes to recover, resulting in potentially missing important sights.
Red light flashlights are available on-site with a $5 donation to the Northwoods Explorers.
