Runners set out for Three Eagle 5k and half-marathon this weekend

Running enthusiasts will set out on the Three Eagle Trail this Saturday, Oct. 11, for the Three Eagle half-marathon and 5k on the 13.1-mile crushed limestone trail that connects Three Lakes and Eagle River.

There is still time to register for the event, as it offers same-day registration on the morning of.

Race Director Jayme Wyss said the registration numbers for the event are up roughly 10% from last year, and there is still time to register for this weekend.
Cost is $55 to sign up for the half-marathon and $35 for the 5k. Each race will also have a small sign-up fee when you register online.

“It’s a picturesque run through the woods during near peak fall colors, and this year is looking to be no exception,” said Wyss. “The weather forecast looks favorable, and we are excited to see everyone hit the trail on Saturday. Schedule of events

As mentioned, there will be late and same-day registration on Friday evening, Oct. 10, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Reiter Center in Three Lakes. Same-day registration and packet pickup will also be Saturday morning from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at the Reiter Center. Drop bags will be available for half-marathon participants.

Shuttle services will begin at 8 a.m. and will run until 8:30 before the start of both races at 9 a.m. Organizers will have a late shuttle at 8:40 a.m. for 5k runners only.

Half-marathon runners will be shuttled to Dairy Queen in Eagle River for the start.

The 5k runners will be dropped off near the start at the Petroleum Museum on Wykoski Road in Three Lakes.

Awards will take place at 10 a.m. for the 5k race and 11:30 a.m. for the half-marathon runners. Post-race food and drink will be available for everyone at the finish line.

Course layout

Half-marathon runners will start their 13.1-mile trek on the Three Eagle trail behind Dairy Queen and will follow the trail for about three miles. After that, the race will turn to Section 9 and Sundstein Road to get from the north to the south end of the trail. Participants will experience a 1.5-mile paved section on this section of the course and should not wear spikes. Small rolling hills and minor elevation changes are expected. During the final mile of the race, participants will exit the trail and turn west on Anderson Street. Athletes will then turn north to Mary Way Loop before heading south on Batogowski Drive and ending at the Reiter Center.

The 5k race will follow the trail all the way down Highway 45, starting at Wykoski Road. During the final mile, 5k athletes will have the same finish as the half-marathon runners.
