Runners take on Three Eagle half-marathon and 5k

Runners from Wisconsin and across the Midwest turned out for the Three Eagle half-marathon and 5k held last weekend, with weather conditions perfect for running.

Many locals also took to the Three Eagle trail, including the full Three Lakes-Phelps cross-country teams.

There were 144 men in the half-marathon and 143 women, while 116 men ran in the 5k race along with 236 women.

The team used this event as practice as the team heads into sectionals next week.

Starting with results from the half-marathon, Luke Kubasta, of Madison, in the men 20-29 division, was the overall top finisher in the 13.1-mile run, finishing with a time of 1:20:02. Nick Fraham of Chicago, Ill., finished in second place with a time of 1:20:33.

Three Lakes local Nate Koch, the Three Lakes-Phelps head track coach and assistant cross country coach, finished in eighth place with a time of 1:30:36.

In the women’s division, Danielle Raleigh took the top spot with her time of 1:34:56. Three Lakes local Jaynie Nafziger finished second in the half-marathon, clocking a time of 1:36:00.

Eagle River runner Kendra Graper finished eighth overall with a time of 1:46:27.

The 5k races were dominated by local runners, with Sarah Weyenberg taking the top overall spot in the women’s 5k with a time of 19:44. Three Lakes freshman Bekah Koch and sophomore Rylee Glembin took second and third overall and first and second in the girls 13-19 division with their times of 20:07 and 21:17.

Erica Stauffer, Ayla Connor and Grace Mandli, all a part of the Three Lakes-Phelps cross country team, took sixth, eighth and ninth overall.

Nolan Waltz grabbed the best time overall in the men’s division, cruising to a time of 15:53. Second-place finisher Sean Straka of Lakeville, Minn., came in with a time of 18:23.

Three Lakes Middle School runners Kenny Koch and Logan finished sixth and eighth overall and top three in their respective division with their times of 20:06 and 20:53, respectively.

Glenn Stauffer, running in the men’s 50-59 division, rounded out the top 10 overall finishers with his time of 21:03.
