The Silver Blades Ice Show returns this year on Saturday, April 18, and Sunday, April 19, at 1 p.m. both days at the Eagle River Sports Arena, also known as the Dome.
Presented by the Eagle River Figure Skating Club, this year’s theme is “Once Upon the Ice — Fairytales and Fantasy.” The show will feature 63 costumed ice skaters ages 3–18.
The group has been preparing for the ice show since the regular season ended Feb. 24.
“The skaters get to showcase their hard work after a season of practice — and for some of the skaters, many years of practice,” said Darcy Smith, president of the Eagle River Recreation Association’s figure skating committee.
Highlights include the Senior Skate Solo featuring Julie Wojtusik skating to “Let It Go” from “Frozen” and Vayda Barber skating to “Bundle of Joy” from “Inside Out.”
Last year’s show featured the girls’ high school figure skating team performing alongside the boys’ hockey team. That collaboration will return this year, along with the girls’ high school entertainment number.
Smith said the “blackout routine” is a favorite of many, as the lights go out and the skaters perform their routine in the dark. Another popular moment is watching the Snowplow Sam group of first-year skaters perform their very first show.
“We have a lot of talent in our coaches and skaters,” Smith said, adding that she loves how the annual ice show brings the community together.
“Families, friends and neighbors gather to support local talent,” she said. “The show inspires other kids to try skating themselves. Overall, it’s an event that turns individual effort into a shared experience.”
Ticket prices are $10 for adults, $5 for ages 2–17, military members and seniors, and free for children under 2.
The Dome is located at 4149 Highway 70 E in Eagle River.
