Donations toward Warm The Children (WTC), a nonprofit program sponsored by the Vilas County News-Review with the help of the Eagle River Rotary Foundation that provides new winter clothing to eligible children, has now reached the 33% mark toward the 2024 goal of $80,000, according to program coordinator, Nancy Brandner.
Shopping for the program is scheduled to begin this Saturday, Nov. 2, and the first round of vouchers have been sent out to volunteer shoppers.
“We accept applications through mid-December. Because they have to first go through Vilas County Social Services, be sure to get your application in as soon as possible because there is more than one step in the process. The whole process has to be completed before vouchers for families are even sent to volunteer shoppers,” said Brandner.
All donations are used to purchase clothing for children and the News-Review picks up all administrative costs.
Families will be served by 36 shoppers who are donating their time.
“A big thank you to the returning shoppers and to those who are new to the program this year,” stated Brandner. “Also, a big shout out to Debbie Buss and Amber Arndt Johnson, my two biggest helpers on the administrative end of things. This program could not make it without the volunteerism of all.
“Shoppers are always needed. If you want to donate to this much-needed community program and aren’t able to donate money, consider donating your time. It is just as important, and rewarding, as you get to experience your donation firsthand. Even if you can only take one child shopping this year, that is one child we know has been taken care of,” encouraged Brandner.
For more information about becoming a shopper or making a donation, call 715-479-4421.
“Every donation, no matter how large or small, is greatly appreciated. Donations can be made in memory of or in honor of loved ones,” said Brandner.
Checks can be made out to “Warm The Children” and mailed to the Vilas County News-Review, P.O. Box 1929, Eagle River, WI 54521 or dropped off at the News-Review office at 425 Mill St. in Eagle River. Online donations can be made at vcnewsreview.com on the home page.
