Posted

Northland Pines senior athlete Ava Carrillo is not only a hockey player, but she is also an avid track and field athlete who competes in short sprints and the pole vault. In summer, Carrillo is a show-skier for the Chainskimmers, and her goal is to compete on water skis in college. When she’s not playing sports, you can find Carrillo snowmobiling, hunting and downhill skiing in her free time. Here is more on the Northland Pines senior:

Do you have a nickname that your friends or family call you?
“I don’t have a nickname that people call me.”

Do you participate in any other sports besides hockey?
“I participate in track and field, where I am the captain of the girls team. I run all the short sprints, and I am a pole vaulter. I am also a competitive water skier. I have been show skiing for 14 years. I currently ski for the Chainskimmers water ski team in Conover during the summertime. This past summer, I was the co-show director with my brother. I compete in the Wisconsin State water skiing every year, taking fourth place this past summer in the women’s freestyle jump competition.”

Is there a personal goal you have on the ice this year?
“One personal goal I have this year for my hockey season is to have fun and improve on my stick-handling skills.”

What other hobbies do you have outside of sports?
“Some other hobbies I have outside of sports are snowmobiling, downhill skiing, hunting, and spending time outside.”

Favorite vacation spot that you’ve been to?

“My favorite vacation spot is Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, because my cousin’s wedding was in Puerto Vallarta. Having a vacation surrounded by family was one of the best experiences I have had.”

Do you have a pregame ritual that helps you before your games?
“My pre-game ritual is to listen to music, roll out my legs and eat a cutie to help fuel myself for the game.”

Do you have any plans for after high school? College? Sports?
“After high school, I plan on going to college and competing in collegiate 3-event water skiing. I am currently interested in the medical field. I want to pursue my passion for that field in college.”
